January Shop Window Display

Tuesday, January 11th, 2011

Winter has certainly hit St. Louis.  We have several inches of snow on the ground as I post these photos, and baby it’s cold outside.   The shop window images were taken just a few snow-less days ago.    I repurposed two of my silver trees to add a silvery chill to the window display especially when combined with the mercury glass tulips, the candlestick, and the large English dome.   The French chairs are upholstered in Belgium linen.  The cast iron urn holds several live miniature holly trees.  Fido (the Italian dog under the table) seems to be begging for  Spring to arrive very soon, I know I am.  Click on image to enlarge.

The shop window will soon change because Mardi Gras in St. Louis is right around the corner at the end of February.   It seems like 2011 is already off and running because not only is Mardi Gras soon but the winter container is also arriving from Europe.  The date for the next Container Event is February 24th.  Don’t miss this chance to see everything first, mark your calendars now!

Spring Window Display 2010

It’s so much fun to finally do a Spring window for 2010.  It has been a long and cold Winter in St. Louis and so these first few signs of Spring are to be celebrated.   I have a large battery jar full of pussy willow in front of a wonderful 19th century gold gilt mirror that is a recent addition to the shop.  Roxie is barely visible in the shop window, on the left,  keeping an ever watchful eye for her neighborhood dog friends.   Click on images to enlarge.

Battery jars, a Japanese fishing float, a butterfly net, and a wonderful pair of cast iron fleur-de-lis fence post finials all compete for attention in this window display; Roxie, on the far left side, wins hands down.        I have had spring flowers on my mind since the Winter Container Party here at the shop a few weeks ago and so this week I made my hotel reservations for the Chicago Botanic Garden Antiques and Garden Fair in April.   If you are not familiar with the show  information about it is here.  The Chicago Garden show in Glencoe, Illinois  is one of the most beautiful antique shows in the country.   The Antiques and Garden Fair is April 16th – 18th, make plans now to attend.  Click on images to enlarge.

Shop Window Display for the 2009 Container Party

I have found that taking photos of window displays is very hard to do.   Photos taken during the day are difficult because the glass is too reflective.  Taken at night the  photos can seem dark and moody, which is not always a bad thing.  The Container Party shop windows often have some sort of  wrapped or bound objects in them, making a reference to all of the carefully wrapped objects that just came over the Atlantic from Rotterdam, Holland..  This year’s window has a number of pieces, wrapped and tied with bubble wrap literally swirling around,  suspended by chain from the ceiling.  Click on images to enlarge.

The plastic wrap really reflects the light.

The window at night with a flash.  Roxie,  my dog comes to the shop with me and has her bed in the bottom left hand corner of the front window,  it’s her perch  so she can sit and watch the world go by.  Click on images to enlarge.
