While my comment was obviously partly in jest, it also was intended to point out the double-standard. Any player who has a career-year nowadays is immediately labeled a cheater. Yet looking back at the history of baseball, we will always find sharp rises and declines and other apparent abberations. While some of this certainly can be linked to cheating of one form or another, much of it can be explained in other, less nefarious ways. And, as such, I’m not really comfortable playing the “Gotcha!” game any time someone surprises us.
